THE BOWEL CLEANSES

Developed in clinical practice by 3 generations of Herbalists.
Both Cleanses can be taken over 17+ days (for people with busy lives) or as a 7 day intensive (for a deeper cleansing experience).

The Benefits of Bowel Cleansing

Bowel-related disorders are the most common form of illness in western societies. Much of this stems from bowel congestion i.e. elimination is sluggish and inadequate, allowing faecal and mucoid deposits to become stuck to the bowel wall (impaction). These deposits narrow the passage through which the faeces must pass, increasing the chance of blockage. It is estimated that the average person carries around 10 lb (4.5 kg) of impacted waste. If the mucoid deposits are in the small intestine, they restrict the uptake of essential nutrients, which can result in a form of malnutrition and food cravings.

There are many symptoms associated with bowel congestion and for each person it will be slightly different. For example, there may be feelings of bloating, abdominal distension and discomfort or embarrassing wind. Bowel movements may be difficult or incomplete. There may be constipation or alternating constipation and diarrhoea. To put this in perspective, a healthy person should have 1 or 2 movements per day, formed but soft and without straining. Anything different to this suggests some level of congestion.

On top of this there may be other symptoms such as loss of energy and well-being, allergies and food intolerances, fatigue, poor concentration, headaches or migraines, muscular and joint pain, irritability, insomnia, unhealthy-looking skin and hair, bad breath, low immunity resulting in frequent bouts of illness. In some people these are not accompanied by abdominal discomfort.

Organisms such as Candida thrive in such an environment, which in time can lead to leaky gut syndrome and food intolerances.

Many people report dramatic improvements after a bowel cleanse. With feeling healthier comes the desire to stay healthy. Food often tastes better, meaning that a healthier diet becomes more attractive, and with more energy it becomes possible to get more exercise.

The Cleanse Packages

Contents

  • 72 capsules stool softener. These come in different strengths depending on the kit ordered. Cleanse No.1 contains a milder formula.
  • 200 g Clay & Slippery Elm Formula - toxin absorber and drawing agent
  • 30 capsules Probiotic Max - high strength, multi-strain probiotic formula. Minimum content 20 billion bacteria per capsule
Which Cleanse Is Right For Me? The cleanses differ only in the strength of the stool softening capsules. Cleanse No.1 is suitable for people who have a bowel movement every day or at worst every other day. Bowel Cleanse No.2 has a stronger laxative action, which is more suited to people with sluggish bowels.
Either cleanse can be taken in the standard way which takes approximately 17 days or as a 7 day intensive for a deeper cleansing experience

The Standard Cleanse in Brief

This has been developed for people who have busy lives but still want to focus on their health. During the programme you can eat normally, although we do recommend that you take steps to improve your diet. Poor diet is the root cause of most bowel congestion, so it is somewhat self-defeating to continue to eat the sort of food which contributed to the problem in the first place.
  • Stage 1 (7 days): Take a daily dose of the stool softening capsules, increasing the dose each day until you achieve a satisfying bowel movement. The capsules soften impacted faecal matter and mucoid deposits while stimulating elimination.
  • Stage 2 (10 days): Start taking the Clay & Slippery Elm powder. The dose is 2 teaspoons 3 times daily mixed with any fruit or vegetable juice except orange. To do this you will need a blender and/or a suitable screw-topped jar for doses when you are out of the house. You will also need to continue taking the stool softening capsules with your evening meal and adjust the dose if necessary. This stage should be continued for 10 days or until the powder is finished.
  • Aftercare: Take a daily dose of Probiotic Max to replenish the ‘beneficial’ bacteria in the bowel. We recommend that you do this for 15 days.

The Intensive Cleanse in Brief

This programme is for people who want a stronger cleanse and are prepared to devote the extra effort required. While it is possible to fit this into the working/caring week, you should be aware that in a lot of cases there are days around the midway point where people feel lethargic, ‘spaced out’ or ‘hung over’ as a result of the detoxification process. We therefore suggest that you time things so that days 3 and 4 fall when you have a break from work or some back up to look after children or charges.

We thoroughly recommend that you opt to include the daily enemas, especially if you suffer from frequent constipation. Most people think enemas will be difficult, messy and/or painful, but invariably they are pleasantly surprised at how easy these are and they do really increase the power of the cleanse.

Daily Routine

  • Nutrition: A liquid only diet is recommended from day 3 to day 7 of the cleanse. A vegan diet is recommended during days 1 and 2, with only fresh fruit, raw or lightly steamed vegetables and brown rice, millet or quinoa eaten on day 2. If you prefer you may take liquids only throughout the entire 7 day period. During the liquid only stage you should drink at least 2-3 litres of water per day plus 2 litres of fruit or vegetable juices (preferably freshly prepared) and some vegetable broth/soup, which together will provide more than adequate nutrition. On day 8 you should eat light vegan food to allow the digestive system to readjust.
  • Aloe & Senna or Burdock & Cascara capsules: Stool softening capsules are taken daily around tea time at the same time as a dose of Clay & Slippery Elm formula. The daily dose is gradually increased to encourage full evacuation. The optimum dose is different for each person.
  • Clay & Slippery Elm formula: The first dose is taken on the evening of day 1 and increased to a maximum of 4 teaspoons 3 x daily on days 4 and 5, then gradually decreased. The formula needs to be mixed with any fruit or vegetable juice except orange. To do this you will need a blender and/or a suitable screw-topped jar for doses when you are out of the house.
  • Enemas (recommended but not essential): Start each day with a coffee enema, then take a chamomile enema in the evening. Ground coffee and chamomile tea bags are suitable for this purpose but are not included in the kit. An enema kit must be purchased separately.
